About
A studio that began with one family apartment.

Ella Hall
Ella Hall is the founder of Rooney Design. She is also CEO of Stitchroom, an upholstery and fabrication shop in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The home that started it
Rooney Design began with Ella’s own home. Raising children in New York, she knew how hard every square foot must work. She wanted rooms that welcomed family life without being overtaken by it, and that felt considered rather than sterile.
She approached it as a designer. Spatial planning first, then storage that reads as furniture, materials chosen to wear gracefully, and organization as beautiful as it is useful.
Family life is accommodated. It never takes over the design.
That principle guides every project. We study how a household moves through its rooms, edit what no longer serves it, and design from there. Sometimes the answer is a single, well-made piece. Sometimes it is a room, or the entire home. Composed for guests, and equally at ease on an ordinary day.
The studio is based in Brooklyn and works with families and space-conscious clients in New York. Selected projects are on Work, and the Apartment Therapy feature is on Press.
Approach
Warm. Precise. Considered.
Floor plans, finishes, and the quiet details of daily life, given equal attention. Function, flow, and how a room feels and looks.
